Art Journal

Dear readers,

I began my first art journal this year. Such are the troublesome times we live in now in 2020 with the global Coronavirus Pandemic, that I thought it would be nice to withdraw from the world and become more introspective and explore meaning from within myself.  So, I made a few pages to get the art journal going and thought you might like to see some of them.

For the above spread, I made it using brusho crystal colours for the background, I then stamped clock images on with gold ink, then using gold cardstock, I die cut the gears and cogs before gluing those on. To finish, I made a label with the embossed phrase on.

For this 'Love' themed spread, I broke two blank A5 pages by stamping lots of texture images all over using various shades of red inks, then using distress oxide inks to add some colour to offset the white page. I then used a pencil to draw half a heart on red cardstock, and a wing on folded white cardstock. Then I used scissors to cut out the two heart halves, and two white wings. I stamped the word 'love' all over the red heart. Following that, I used a sharpie to define the shape of the wings, before stamping a texture pattern all over it to give it a grungy appearance. I finished off by embossing the phrase as as label and stuck that on.

Again, I used brusho crystal colours to make the dreamy background, with various washi tapes stuck randomly in the middle of the page to draw the eye in......I think it works very well.

On this spread, I used torn up pages from an old paperback novel which I glued onto a blank page using matt gel medium. Once dry, I added some white gesso before adding colour using distress oxide inks. Then I stamped various images over that using black ink, before adding the embossed label phrases.

I broke two blank A5 pages by painting white gesso on them. Once dry, I used various acrylic paints and added colour in blocks. Once that was dry, I used some detail stencils and white gouache with a sponge to add some texture. Then while that was drying, I painted cardstock with similar acrylic colours and stamped out some flowers which I then punched out. I adhered the flowers onto the page using sticky foam to add dimension, and drew the stems on with a black sharpie. Love the phrase on this one!

Stay true to yourself, love Mary xx
